Butter, Flour, Sugar, Joy by Danielle Kartes

INTERVIEW WITH DANIELLE KARTES

April 18, 2024

GENERAL QUESTIONS

How do you begin writing a new book?

First up, I start to think about what feels inspiring and I draw from foods I’ve been wild about cooking lately!

What was your favorite childhood book?

Mrs. Piggle-wiggle & Tuck Everlasting.

Do you listen to music while you write, or do you need complete silence?

I prefer silence and I write best outside of my normal environment.  I try to not read any books while I write so I’m not influenced by others writing.

Do you think being a writer isolates you or connects you to other people?

I think I’ve experienced both but these days I find more connection after I write.  People are wanting to hear our stories and I try to uplift through my writing.  This truly fills my tank.

What advice would you give to a new writer?

Just write, get it all out, don’t try to sound like who you want to be, just be yourself!

DANIELLE SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
